I have worked extensively for four NHS trusts, writing, editing and proof reading annual reports and other internal and external publications, producing media releases and features, conveying health messages to the public and generating positive news coverage. At Basildon University Hospital, much of this work has focused on promoting The Essex Cardiothoracic Centre, which provides highly specialised and pioneering treatment for heart and lung patients.
Why I enjoy writing about health: Absolutely everyone has an interest in healthcare. Illness is a great leveller; you never know who you will meet in a hospital. It is always intriguing to listen to senior surgeons and clinical staff, but just as fascinating and humbling to hear and tell the patients’ stories. But prevention is always better than cure, and encouraging healthy lifestyles, without preaching, can benefit individuals and our National Health Service.
